Crossing the Bay of Biscay – Cherbourg – Lagos 15.8 to 25.8 2025

11 days — 1900

Biscay trip 11 days 1900€ per person

Autumn come and birds starts emigrating south. After a busy summer in Northern Europe it’s time to wrap it up and head south again.

Cherbourg is a perfect starting point for this leg with possibilities for high end victualing and, if needed, good service if something needs to be done on the boat.

This time of year it’s usually full summer and there shouldn’t be any bigger surprises with the weather. Part of the trip is going to be in lovely Brittany, with stop-overs like Roscoff and maybe Brest? Roscoff has been a pleasant surprise and the small town has some good restaurants to cater for hungry sailors. Brest has been growing in popularity and behind it’s rough facade it’s a lovely place with lot’s to experience.

Brest is also a good place to wait for a weather window and the jump across the bay. On the other side of the bay we have A Coruna, a hip Galician city with excellent sea food and attractions like the old Roman lighthouse “Torre de Hercules”.

This part of the trip has to be carefully planned since the Iberian Orca is still attacking boats. There’s basically two ways of negotiating the coast. To go as far out as possible or hug the corners and stay really close to shore. The second alternative is offering more stop-overs and the other more time out in the ocean.

The crew is expected to be able to take watches and participate in running the boat. It’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about ocean sailing and how to run a boat in offshore conditions. It is good if you already have some experience and spent some time at sea since this is a true blue water leg with everything that goes along that.
