Join s/y Eira on an offshore race beyond the Russian border. The Suursaari Race is the Finnish equivalent to the Fastnet race and takes the fleet around Suursaari, the biggest island in the eastern Gulf of Finland. Suursaari (or Hogland) used to belong to Finland but was ceded to Russia after WW II. With high hills he Island is an imposing view far out in the open sea. Usually the yacht that manages to round the island without getting stuck in a wind hole wins.
The Suursaari Race is a two-night race that collects the Finnish sailing elite for what is the longest offshore sail race in The Finnish Gulf.
The race is long enough (approx. 160 miles) to include all the proper drill of an offshore race. The weather typically varies a lot and there is plenty of time to practice strategies and race manoeuvres under the guidance of our competent crew. On-board Eira even beginners can feel the thrill and excitement of true offshore racing, no previous racing experience required!
