Labor Day Race is a fun sail race between three top-brand Finnish yachts:
two Swan 51’s (s/y Belmont and s/y Eira) and one Baltic 42 (s/y Wonder
Why). The yachts compete in a friendly race from Tallinn to Helsinki for the
honor of being the fastest yacht across the Gulf of Finland in this spring race.
After crossing the Finish line in Helsinki we will get absorbed by the Labor
Day festivities. It all starts at the positioning of a student hat on the head of
the statue Havis Amanda, onshore party at the docks, traditional herring
brunch on Tuesday and a general carnival that stands apart at these
Monday, April 30
10:00 Gathering at the entrance gate to the Old Town Marina in Tallinn (if you
arrive from Finland, you need to catch the 7:30 ferry from Helsinki). After an
introduction to the boats and safety on-board we leave for the starting line.
17:00 Estimated time to arrive to Helsinki and the finish line. Festivities start
when boats park in the Eteläsatama harbour to view the Manta rituals and
drink champagne. (Note: exact time of arrival subject to weather conditions).
19:00 We move to the other side of Katajanokka.
20:00 – 02.00 Party on the boats and at the quayside bars.
Tuesday, May 1
10:00 Herring brunch at the boats or restaurant Sköne (next to the boats)
12:00 The Labor Day afterburner.
